Jennifer started white water kayaking in 2005 and loved it so much she never stopped. She is an ACA level IV White Water Kayak Instructor but she truly enjoys teaching the sport from 'Flat Water to White Water!'. She started working with adaptive paddling instruction around 2008 out in San Antonio/San Marcos Area with wounded veterans at the DOD Center for the Intrepid and the Power Olympic Outdoors Center. She felt we needed an adaptive paddling program that would reach out to the large wounded veteran population in Houston, so in 2010, she started the Houston chapter of the National non-profit veteran's organization Team River Runner. Team River Runner (TRR) gives military veterans and their family members an opportunity to find health, healing, and new challenges through paddling sports. TRR-Houston provides free kayak instruction and equipment use for local wounded veterans but our adaptive programming also extends to Special Olympics Athletes, Para-atheletes, and Low-income youth.
Team River Runner Texas Program:
1) Pool sessions with stroke drills, rolling, and kayak basketball.
2) Day and weekend trips to local lakes and rivers.
3) White water classes in conjunction with TRR-San Antonio.
4) Train interested paddlers to participate in sprint, marathon, kayak polo, and whitewater slalom competitions.
