Location/Directions: The classes will be taught at San Luis Pass and Surfside Beach. The exact meetup location is still to be determined. Directions will be provided later.
Hazards: This training takes place in the surf zone and ocean environment. Collisions with other kayaks, surfers and swimmers are possible. San Luis pass can have strong tidal currents. Rip currents that carry you out to sea may be present. There are sea creatures that can be hazardous to your well being including sharks, stingrays, stinging jelly fish, etc. There will be a safety briefing at the start of the course covering these and other hazards. An objective of the training is to understand and mitigate the risks that exist in the ocean environment through knowledge and skills development.
