A jewel on the Texas mid coast. Roughly 200 miles southwest of Houston. The bays and passes in the area offer undisturbed shorelines studded with mangroves and quiet coves to study wading birds, sea turtles and maybe cast a line for a tasty redfish. The water in Aransas Bay and South Bay is very clear with healthy sea grass bottoms.

Predicted Temperatures: 85o Highs, 65o Lows

The planned campsite is on the Quarantine Shoreline, which has been fully vetted by the area Boy Scouts, led by long time local kayak guide Dean "Slowride" Thomas

Here is the itinerary:

Thu. Dec. 1. 2016:  Meet in Aransas Pass Thursday night where some us are staying at the Redfish Bay Cottage at 945 N. Commercial [ http://redfishbaycottage.com/ ] Here we can group up, make dinner and hang out. The cottage is full.   Those not staying at the cottage will need to look for other accommodations, but please join us all for dinner if you are staying nearby. Of course you can drive in on Friday morning.

Hazards -- We will be crossing the commercial boating lanes with large boat traffic. Expect to intercept a number of pleasure boats. The bay can intensify choppy conditions.  Oyster reefs have been encountered in the past, mostly in Lighthouse Lakes. Submerged reefs can usually be seen as a darker area.
