Each fall, Willie Younger, as Water Activities Coordinator for the Matagorda County Birding Nature Center, strives to complete the course he teaches on how to comfortably and safely engage in waterfront camping from one’s paddlecraft (i.e., kayak or canoe; yep, even an SUP if adventurous enough) with an overnight weekend outing. He has not yet set the date for the classroom instruction (i.e., Session I). But, he feels confident that the first Saturday and Sunday of December (12-03 &04) would work well for the annual in-the-field practical (i.e., river or bay camp-out).

Therefore, he invites all who have either completed this two-part outdoors skills course, OR… have more than two paddling-camping experiences in remote and primitive locations under their belt, to join as unsponsored participants. “Unsponsored” means they would be involved at their own risk as tag-along (a.k.a. meet-up) guys and gals, with no MCBNC liability coverage provided (unless a current MCBNC member that is). He also cautions that each participant (MCBNC-sponsored students or freewillers) must be confident of their ability to paddle 10-plus miles per day on relatively placid waters without undue stress (physical and/or emotional).

If interested in either taking this unique course or enjoying this weekend outing as an already-seasoned paddling camper contact Younger at 9679-240-4872 or w-younger@att.net.
