Based on requests, this is an opportunity for more practice on Level 1 paddle strokes and rescue techniques.  Maneuvering strokes may be in the mix.  I will have a lesson plan, but student input will be more important.

If you only want to work on paddle strokes, boats need only have fore and aft flotation (i.e. they won't sink if they capsize).  This means water tight bulkheads or flotation bags.  Spray skirt not required, but good idea if you want to push your edging..

If you want to work on rescue skills, your boat must have deck lines all around it, and also fore and aft flotation, as above.  Spray skirts not mandatory, but recommended, for future real world application.

You must be able to do a wet exit from your boat, however it is configured (with or without spray skirt).

Participation is restricted to 4 students to each instructor for safety reasons.  At the moment I am the only instructor, but if more instructors volunteer I will increase trip capacity

The event will take place in Lake Woodlands, in The Woodlands, Texas.  The launch site is Northshore Park.  Please arrive in time to be ready to launch at 8:30 AM.

The park has parking close to the launch ramp and a restroom house suitable for changing, if you wish.

Main hazard is heat.  There may also be scullers (rowers), and fishermen.  Bring lots of water and dress appropriately.  I will monitor the weather for wind and thunderstorms as we get closer to the time.  Dress for both heat and immersion.  Woodlands Township tell me that the water quality is monitored continuously and no one is allowed to go on the lake if quality becomes unsafe.  I use the lake often, including for rolling and rescue practice.
