Trip Description: Meet at 9:30 for paddles wet at 10:00. Paddle out from Port Alto Beach (directions below) southward into Salt Lake and Redfish Lake for lunch on a shell beach and return. This is between Palacios and Port Lavaca, TX on Caracahua Bay. This is a 9 - 10 mile Level 2 trip, open to southeast wind but partly sheltered water.

This trip is close to the next day's San Antonio Bay Partnership paddle to Pass Cavallo. This is NOT a HASK event but is on our calendar for information. If there is interest, we can find Saturday night group accommodations in the vicinity.

Directions to the Put-in:  From Houston, take Hwy 59 south. Take the TX 172/FM 710 exit at Ganado. Drive south 34 miles on TX 172 to Port Alto. Turn left on TX 159 Spur and drive 2.3 miles to CR 307. Turn left on CR 307 and drive 0.3 miles, where you will see the launch beach. Parking may be tight, so unload your boat, carry (or wheel) it to the beach, and move your car up the road for parking. I have never been to this spot, so be resourceful.

In your navigation device, enter The Admiral Benbow Inn at 63 Co Rd 307, Port Lavaca, TX 77979 or the lat-lon  28°39'49.66"N,  96°24'31.68"W

Among the hazards are oysters, fire ants and other stinging insects, HEAT, DEHYDRATION, snakes, debris in the water, etc. Bring lunch, LOTS OF WATER, and good sun protection. Bring along any safety gear you have, including paddle float, bilge pump, VHF radio, cell phone in waterproof case, tow belt. I will have all this plus a first aid kit.
