There is no way to pay for parking with cash! Payment of the parking fee at the Texas A&M campus requires the use of a mobile app ($5 parking + $0.35 fee) or a credit card-only kiosk, which is more expensive. The app should be set up ahead of time to create an account. To do this, follow the instructions at the following link:

http://www.tamug.edu/AdminAux/parking/Parkmobile.html    We should find a Parkmobile sign at the parking area with the zone number to enter into our phones and pay there.

If you don't want to fool with that, there should be a kiosk where you can pay with a credit card. We don't know the credit card rate but HASK been told it's more expensive than the Parkmobile app.

Trip Description:

Level 3 circumnavigation of Pelican Island. Conditions for our date look favorable but this trip can be choppy and challenging, so consider your abilities and appetiteWe will circle Pelican Island counterclockwise which will include passing through the ship channel between Pelican and Galveston Islands.  Sights we will see along the way include the Elissa Tall Ship, possibly a cruise ship, Sea Wolf Park and the partially sunk SS Selma concrete ship in the bay.  The remainder (most) of the trip will be along natural shoreline.

Pack a lunch or snacks.  It's still warm, bring water and refreshing liquids.

We often see dolphins on this trip along with a variety of birds.  This a 10-12 mile level 3 kayak trip
Please arrive by 8:30 AM so we can
launch at 9:00 AM.

Directions to the Put-in:  From Houston take 45 South to Galveston. Turn left on 51st Street.  Continue across the bridge and at the first opportunity turn right into the campus. Turn right at the next intersection and head down toward the beach.  The beach is just to the east of the channel bridge you just crossed over.

Texas A&M Mitchell Campus

Although conditions are looking good for our date, this can be a choppy and challenging trip with current and boat traffic, so consider your abilities and appetite.

Pelican Island Circumnavigation

Hazards:
CHOP, possible winds. Trip Leaders will assess the forecast. Paddler's must be confident in 2' chop, reflective waves and 3' swells. Dehydration. This is 12-mile trip. Bring 2-3 liters of water. Have good sun protection - wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, skin covering. There will be small and large boat traffic in the channel between Pelican Island and Galveston.  We will be crossing this channel to visit the Elissa Tall Ship. Watch out for ships that are docking or leaving port.  Homeland Security requires that we stay at least 100 yards away from military and cruise line vessels.  We may encounter 1-3 foot waves from ships on the east side of the island. Bay conditions may be choppy depending on wind.  Do the Texas shuffle when landing on beaches to avoid stingrays.  There are snakes on the undeveloped part of the island.  We hope to encounter wild dolphins.
