It's that time of the year again. Kayakers are neede?d to provide swimmer safety support along with the Galveston Beach Patrol for the Texas 70.3 IRONMAN Triathlon in Galveston. This is held in the bay at Moody Gardens and is a fun and rewarding experience. In return for your help you get a volunteer t shirt and the IRONMAN organization will make a donation to a charity based on the number of volunteers that we provide. Last year they made a $1,000 donation on our behalf to The Woods Project due to providing 25 paddlers.
The requirement for volunteering for the kayaking support is the willingness and ability to get up and be on the water in Galveston at 5:45 a.m. and the ability to handle your kayak in bay conditions which may entail wind and choppy water. (This is much more protected than Kemah) You must also be able to allow swimmers to hold on to your kayak in these conditions. This will be held on Sunday April 5th.
