Willie Younger and Phil Salvador are organizing some basic paddling and rescue training for paddlers around Bay City, and HASK members are also invited.  Both Sit On Top and Sit Inside boats are welcome.  This is not a HASK event.  If you want to know more, and register, contact Willie at <w-younger@att.net> or 979-240-4872.

 

The program is:

 

  • Kayaking 101 - The Fundamentals of Paddling; 5:45 – 7:45 PM, Friday - June 25, Willie Younger instructor
  • Wet Exits, Rescues & Recovery for Sit-On Top Kayakers:9:30 - 11:45 AM, Saturday, June 26, Phil Salvador instructor
  • Rescues & Recovery for Sit Inside Kayakers (i.e., decked boat paddlers); 2:45 – 5:00 PM Phil Salvador instructor

 

The location for this event is the Matagorda County Birding Nature Center. It is located at 1025 TX-35, Bay City, TX 77414  on the southwestern outskirts of  Bay City near the State Highway 35 Bridge over the Colorado River and adjacent to the town’s popular LeTulle Park.

 

The fee for each session is $10.  All proceeds will go to support the upkeep and operations of the MCBNC.  Each session is limited to five students, 16 or older, and fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

PLEASE IGNORE INDICATIONS IN THE HASK EVENTS CALENDAR THAT THE COURSE IS FULL!! CONTACT WILLIE YOUNGER TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS STILL ROOM FOR YOU.  SORRY FOR ANY CONFUSION CAUSED.

Registration will close on June 16 or when the five-student limit is reached, whichever occurs first.  It is recommended that participants bring their own watercraft and lifejackets for the training program(s) they select.  For those lacking a kayak or boat hauling capability, there are a limited number of kayaks, with lifejackets and paddles, available on a first come, first-served basis, at no additional charge.
