This is a level 2 paddle. We will paddle approximately 10 miles.

We will put in at the boat ramp on Yacht Basin Road at the Intracoastal Waterway on Bolivar Peninsula. We will paddle into East Bay and head northeast to Oyster Bayou and then along the shore of the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge to Frozen Point, then back across the bay and take out where we put in. No car shuttle required.

To get to the put in, head east from Houston on IH10 to Winnie, head south to High Island on Texas 124, and then through High Island to the Bolivar Beach and then turn right onto Texas 87. Drive approximately 7.25 miles to the small bridge at Rollover Pass. Cross the bridge. In another approximately .4 miles turn right onto Yacht Basin Road. The boat ramp put in is at the end of that road. High Island is approximately 80 miles from Houston, and the put in is another 9.6 miles from there.

The weather is currently scheduled to be good with lightish southwest winds. Bay water temperatures are getting cooler. Be dressed for immersion. Be prepared to paddle 4-5 miles between stops. We may be crossing the bay but will be within 1 mile of shore at all times. All paddlers must have spray skirts and be able to do wet exits and assisted reentries. Hats and sunscreen, etc.

The coordinates of the put in are: 29.5154 N, 94.5125 W.

The put in and take out is a god boat ramp, with the usual slippery conditions and some oyster shells. Plenty of parking and a porta potty. We will be crossing the ICW twice. The rest stops are small beaches, or shallow marshes where we will have to stand in the water. But it is doable!! On a pretty day the paddle is great.

If the weather does not cooperate we will paddle in more protected waters and perhaps along the ICW, but the put in will be the same. I will monitor the weather and notify all participants via email the day before.
