This paddle has been relocated because wind forecast is too high for the Tiki to Galveston paddle.

We will meet at Deussen Park on Lake Houston at 8:00 to paddle at 8:30 to Ponderosa Marina on the northeast end of Lake Houston. We may or may not need to run a car shuttle first.  In the forecast 12 - 15 mph southerly wind, we will have some following seas and bulkhead chop, making this a good practice session for boat control and steering in such conditions. There will be some boat traffic.  Spray skirts and ability to participate in assisted rescues, if necessary, are required. Bring whatever safety and rescue gear you have (paddle float, bilge pump, radio, etc.)   Bring lunch, which we may eat at the takeout if timing goes as expected.

Deussen to Ponderosa Paddle Route

Directions -- Get directions to Alexander Deussen Park or use the map link above. The park has three boat ramps. We will use the LEFTMOST ramp, which should be the least busy. There is ample parking and restrooms nearby.

Deussen Park Ramp

Lat - lon of the put-in is  30° 3'22.92"N,  95° 5'55.84"W

Hazards -- Dehydration!!! Bring more water than you think you need, at least 3 quarts. Have good sun protection - hat, sunscreen etc. Following wind and seas with bulkhead chop will cause boats to turn and wallow, so good opportunity to practice control. There is also a lot of small boat traffic in the area. The boat ramp may be slippery.
