Welcome to the Houston Association of Sea Kayakers (HASK)

website!  HASK, an American Canoe Association (ACA) Paddle
America Club, is a social club for sea kayakers in the Houston,

Texas area.  HASK was formed in 2000 by a small group of avid

paddlers, primarily as a way to connect with others who love

kayak touring, camping, and surfing.  We’re all about closed

cockpits and open water.  We paddle on lakes, bayous, rivers,

in the bay, in surf and on open water.

The club is run for members by members, and is comprised of

singles, couples, and families ranging in age from teenagers to

seniors.  We currently have approximately 100 members from the Houston and Galveston areas and beyond.

“I joined HASK to meet new people and learn to kayak.
This is a great group and lots of fun!” – Kim N

The club runs multiple trips each month to provide members with opportunities to paddle together.  Trips are available for kayakers of all levels, from beginner to experienced paddlers.  We also offer various types and levels of training to serve both those who are new to sea kayaking and those experienced paddlers who want to work on their skills.  Our trip leaders and trainers are all either American Canoe Association (ACA) or British Canoeing trained.

A mix of trips and training are also available to the public, though some of the more technical are for members only.  Day trips are run mainly within a 50 mile radius of the Houston/Galveston area.  Take a look at our Events or HASK Trips pages to check out our offerings.

“I love being in beautiful places with such a good group of friends."    Carl K

In addition to our trips, we hold picnics and parties throughout the year, and every other month we gather at a downtown Houston restaurant for a club meeting.  We have dinner, socialize, and listen to speakers who present a variety of topics that are of interest to sea kayakers.  Topics have included kayaking vacations, nature photography and conservation and community opportunities.

So whether you’re a beginner or experienced sea kayaker who:

  • Wants to socialize on easy flat water nature paddles, or
  • Loves lumpy water and surfing
  • Likes kayak or car-supported kayak camping
  • Is interested in kayaking vacations
  • Wants to improve kayaking knowledge and skills
  • Likes to participate with others in conservation or outreach efforts
  • Enjoys picnics and parties

then HASK has something for you!  We invite you to read the Message from the Commodore and explore our site to learn more about the many benefits of membership, including discounts on gear through our local merchant-partners.

See you on the water!!
