Trip Description: Car camping at Birch Creek State Park. Saturday day trip of 7-10 miles to various lake destinations with plenty of time to get wet and practice rescue skills, strokes and generally play in the water (beat the heat);  Picnic meal on trip stop;  Post trip ice-cream social followed by an evening trip to the Burton Cafe (www.burtoncafe.com) in Burton, TX, for dinner.  As this weekend has a super moon and the Perseid meteor shower peaking August 12, a clandestine paddle may occur to observe the moon and see if we can still see them.  Sunday has no trip scheduled, but an ad hoc trip may develop during the course of the weekend.

We will meet at the Birch Creek State Park boat ramp on Saturday morning at 9:30am with an in water start at 10am.  We should be off the water by 2:30-3:00pm.

Participants should be able to paddle at a good pace 3-4 mile stints before breaks and dress for the temperatures with the idea of getting wet alot to stay comfortable.

This event is conducted in partnership with the American Canoe Association.  All participants must sign an ACA waiver of liability.  Select Trip Rating on this website for trip ratings, gear requirements, and participant guidelines. All participants must wear a PFD and be able to perform a wet-exit.  There is a $5 fee for participants who are not an ACA member.  This fees covers all activities.
