We will leave BJ’s marina at dusk and paddle upstream to a sandbar, break for a snack, and return. (See map below.) Depending on the make-up of the group the total length will be 4-6 miles. Please plan to arrive by 7:30 PM, pay the launch fee at the marina office (3$/kayak), and be ready to meet at the boat ramp at 8 PM.
This is a Level 2 trip due to darkness and the potential for boat traffic.
Required:
White glow stick or low-intensity light for the stern of your kayak
Plenty of water
The white light is required by the authorities. There will be a police patrol checking compliance. It should be visible from either side of your kayak. If you intend to use a bright LED deck lamp please be sure to shade the bulb, such as with a handkerchief, to reduce its intensity. It's best to keep eye pupils dilated for visibility in darkness.
