Oct. 10-14 is a federal holiday weekend (Columbus Day). Its a good time of year to paddle the Lake on our Southern border. It is hoped that most , if not all, participants might be able to begin the journey on Friday. It is +/- 360 miles from Houston.
Willie suggests getting rooms in Del Rio or somewhere along our route on Friday night.
We can ??target the mouth of the beautiful and alluring Devil's River Canyon as our base camp (e.g., at an established campground).
Arrangements are being made to get camping permits for 277 North Campground or the one at Rough Canyon, all part of the Lake Amistad National Recreation Area. Primitive Camping. Details on the particulars to come.
Lat-lon of the Rough Canyon campground: 29° 34.476'N, 100° 58.599'W
We could then make day trips up Rough Canyon, the river or out into the lake proper in varying directions as the winds dictate. Note, we would not be anywhere near the Mexican border. That section is bordered only by the US.
The expected costs are: Lodging in / near Del Rio on Friday, camp sites $4 / day (sites can be shared by two tents), meals, sharing expenses while car pooling. No arrangements for group meals at this time. We can work on that.
