Running through the middle of Houston, Buffalo Bayou is a close-in option for paddlers, especially those living inside the loop. HASK has paddled the bayou to view the bats and, every year, a handful of members take on the Buffalo Bayou Regatta. While not always the most scenic place to paddle, improvements along the bayou in the past couple of years have made it a better option to enjoy an urban paddle trip as well as the public spaces along its banks. Buffalo Bayou Partnership has had a big hand in these improvements and this month, the Partnership’s Director of PR and Events, Trudi Smith, will be the speaker at our club meeting. She will be giving a presentation on what the bayou now has to offer and what additional projects are being planned. As sponsors of the Buffalo Bayou Regatta, she and the Partnership are aware of the interest paddler’s have in this waterway. The competitors among us should try to see if they can get some inside scoop on next spring’s Regatta.
We had a great turn out at our last meeting and I hope to see an even bigger turnout for September to hear a great speaker, find out what trips are on the calendar and pass a great evening with good friends. See you there.
