The Trip:
We will paddle south from Hugo Point Park boat ramp into Old River Lake and then west to Cross Bayou. We will take Cross Bayou south to Trinity Bay where we will stop on a shell beach at the mouth of the bayou for lunch. (Bring your own or enjoy all the Rangia clams you can eat.) If we can find enough bay water, we will return via the westerly (High Tree) Bayou.
Hazards:
- Errant motor boats, debris in the water, sharp oyster shells, fire ants, alligators, snakes, bears, rattlesnakes, tarantulas. Lots of clam shells and some oysters - wear good closed-toe shoes. Also, it is Vibrio vulnificus season - think twice about paddling if you have any open wounds.
