About this event

I will offer training in a few assisted and self-rescue techniques in quiet water.  Techniques will be those most useful to our paddling circumstances.  If you have a particular technique you want to work on, please let me know.   A later training day will review these techniques in rougher water.

I expect students to have boats with spray skirts and to be able to do wet exits with a spray skirt.

Boats should have water tight bulk heads or flotation fore and aft and deck lines on both sides of the front and back sections of the kayak.

I am restricting participation to 4 students to each instructor for safety reasons (2 students doing, 2 watching).  At the moment I am the only instructor, but if more instructors volunteer i will increase trip capacity

The event will take place in Mud Lake, off Clear Lake Park.  Please arrive in time to be ready to launch at 1:30 PM

The park has parking close to the launch ramp and a restroom house suitable for changing, if you wish.

Main hazard is chiefly heat.  I will monitor the weather for thunderstorms as we get closer to the time.  Dress for both heat and immersion.  Alligators do live in the area, including some places we may go for practice, depending on wind conditions.  I am not aware that they constitute a real hazard if left alone, but if you have concerns please check with me.  You will definitely be in the water part of the time..
