Ongoing Activities throughout the Day

10am – 6pm     Visit the Kayak Paddling Pool and learn to paddle with Southwest Paddlesports

10am-4pm      There’s a fabulous ocean themed mural being painted on the 2nd level of the Stewart Beach Park Pavillion

10am – 6pm    Stop by the beach shoreline to watch a Sandcastle Building demonstration

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY WITH KAYAKS

Presented by Artist Boat & The Galveston Park Board of Trustees, World Oceans Day is held from 10am – 6pm on Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at STEWART BEACH PARK, 201 SEAWALL BLVD- GALVESTON, TX

Southwest Paddle Sports will demonstrate Kayak Paddling in a 20’ x 40’ (3 foot deep) wading pool. Volunteers will assist with safety of the kayakers by standing in the water at each corner of the pool and by controlling the people line and time keeping on land.

 

Instruction and demonstrations will be taught by Southwest Paddle Sports.  No kayaking experience required, but being comfortable in the water and enjoying working with people are “musts”.

 

Volunteer shifts are 2 hrs. each, free parking and free lunch(11am-3pm) is included.

 

Volunteer responsibilities each shift: Four people wading in the pool to assist with the kayaks and 1 person on land to help control the line of people and keeping track of time each group is in the water. Total of 5 volunteers for each shift.

 

Shift 1 is from 10am – 12 noon

Shift 2 is from 12 noon - 2pm

Shift 3 is from 2pm – 4pm

Shift 4 is from 4pm – 6pm

 

Early Bird Shift : 6am – 8am , some heavy lifting.  Six strong volunteers for this project to help set up

the pool.

 

Evening Shift: 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. -some heavy lifting.  Six strong volunteers for this project to help tear

down the pool.
