It may be cold outside, but we have a luxury cabin at Sam Houston Jones State Park near Lake Charles LA booked for warm sleeping, eating, games and fun. Check in Friday after 3 p.m. Stay until Monday morning if you like.
Planned trips are as follows:
- Saturday: Explore the Houston and Calcasieu Rivers in two legs. Leg one starts about 6 miles upstream and ends at the state park boat launch for brunch. Leg two will go upriver as far as we like on the West Fork of the Calcasieu. The plan to go to the Salt Water barrier was changed because the ramp and parking are closed.
-Sunday exploration TBA, but most likely East Fork of the Calcasieu starting at White Oak Park, Lake Charles, with a stop at Loggerheads Bar & Grill for lunch. Address is 3748 Hwy 3059 (Old Town Road) Lake Charles.
We will probably pull out at River Bluff Park in Moss Bluff. Another place to pull out is Riverside Park Lake Charles (a/k/a Perkins Ferry Park) at 1701 Fitzenreiter Road, Lake Charles LA 70601 (not to be confused with Riverside Park West Lake).
Available non paddling activities: Hikes in the park, gambling at the casinos, car tour of the Creole Nature Trail.

For those staying in the cabin, the two couples bedrooms are booked. 2 bunks and living area queen sofa sleeper are available as of 12/18/2019. 14 person maximum occupancy. Required payment of $90 per person for lodging must be received by the organizer before December 30, 2019. Groceries will be provided and the cost shared by all who eat. NO REFUNDS after December 30, 2019.
If you have to cancel, HASK will work with you to help you backfill your spot. Full refund if fewer than 8 pay by December 30. Partial pro-rata refund if more than 8 sleeping spots are filled.
The park has a day use fee for those under age 62.
If you plan to camp, reserve your own spot with Reserve America. Notify the trip organizer before January 30, 2020, if you plan to eat at the cabin and share the grocery bill.
This is an ACA sanctioned event. All participants in ACA-insured activities must wear properly-fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved lifejackets (Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs) at all times during on-water activities. Non-HASK participants must sign a waiver.
