This is a relaxed paddle with the opportunity to see lots of birds and enjoy exploring the marshes of the the bay side of this great state park. There is the opportunity to paddle 8-10 miles or more depending on the desires of the group. Registration is required at the Park HQ and there will be a $5 use fee.

Be there at 9:30 with paddles wet at 10:00. The put-in is at Oak Bayou Access Point on the other side of the highway from the Park HQ:  29o 12' 17.28" N  94o 57' 25.50" W.  Number 2 on the park trails map.  Cut and paste the following link for a copy

Good parking and a nice put-in with an outhouse! Bring water, lunch and snacks.  There will be at least one stop in a nice area with a birding platform. Be prepared to navigate fishermen.  There should be little to no motor boat traffic. Be prepared to do a little shuffle to warn the sting rays. With decent weather, this should be no more than a level 2 and protected from a southerly wind.

The park can be reached from Interstate 45 by exiting right onto 61st Street and traveling south on 61st Street to its intersection with Seawall Boulevard, and then right (west) on Seawall (FM 3005) 10 miles to the park entrance. You will need to go to park HQ first to pay the day fee of $5, which will be to your left. Leave the HQ area, go straight across FM3005 and travel about a half mile to the put in.

Hazards:  Cold Water, MUD, possible low water, oysters (May want to paddle a plastic boat), sting rays
