This is an ACA sanctioned event. All participants in ACA-insured activities must wear properly-fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets (Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs) at all times during on-water activities.
About this event
The park offers approximately 18 miles of hiking/biking trails, 58 campsites with water and electricity, six walk-in tent sites, and five hike-in primitive campsites. The park is open year round. The Turkey Roost area of the park is also open year round. The park maintains birding blinds and winter birds should be in residence in May. We will be paddling/camping with Winnie Shrum's group from the Corpus area.
I will be camping in the water/ electric 30amp sites. The cost is $20.00 per night. You are responsible for reserving your own site. Each camp site has a nice covered picnic table and fire ring. We will be meeting up with a group of paddlers/birders from Corpus Christi
Paddling the South Llano River, I highly recommend a short (14ft and under) plastic kayak due to rocks. You can rent one from a local outfitter if needed.

On Friday, we will do a short and easy 3 hr paddle putting in at the bridge in the park. We do have to run our own shuttle to run this section of the river.
On Saturday we will put in at the first crossing outside of the park and then move our cars to the outfitters (South Llano River Canoes & Kayaks) place on the South Llano river. For a fee they will take the drivers back to our kayaks at the put in and we can take out on their property at the end of our paddle. Winnie Shrum will be making the reservation for the shuttle with the outfitter. This can be a strenuous 6 hr paddle and some sections are considered a level 1 white water. Depending on river level, could be up to a level 2. You need the skill to navigate and handle currents, riffles and obstacles on the river.
On Sunday we can run the short section through the park again or you can bird, hike, or ride bikes. I would plan to be back on the road back to Houston no later then 1:00pm.
