Trip Description: We will paddle upstream for a few miles and then turn around to return to the put-in. An optional paddle can be taken to Horsepen Bayou towards downstream.
This is a level 1-2 paddle
Be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and snack if desired (or lunch if you choose), and of course your PFD.
Directions: Click the Map quest link for map. From Houston take I-45 south toward Galveston, exit on to Bay Area Blvd, take a left and travel 5.6 miles east to Bay Area Park. You will pass over a bayou (Horsepen Bayou) and then Armand Bayou. You will see the park exit driveway first right after passing over Armand Bayou. Go past there to the second driveway which is the entrance. Turn right to enter the park and make a quick right turn which crosses the park between ball fields. Go straight to a parking lot near a duck pond and a kayak launch. Be careful crossing the road that goes towards the exit. There are bathrooms in front of the duck pond on the right.
Lat - lon of the put-in is 29° 35.727'N, 95° 5.382'W
Plan to arrive in the Park by 0930 so we can be on the water by 1000.
Hazards: Stumps, alligators, heat, dehydration, snakes, mosquitoes, wasps, thunderstorms, alien life forms . . . .

This is an ACA sanctioned event. All participants in ACA-insured activities must wear properly-fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved lifejackets (Personal Flotation Devices, or PFDs) at all times during on-water activities. Non-HASK participants must sign a waiver.
