Trip Description: We will meet at 9:30 AM, ready to launch by 10:00 AM, at the boat ramp on Hwy. 3, Dickinson, Texas. There are full bathroom facilities at Paul Hopkins Park on FM 517, on the way to the put-in. There was a porta-can at the put-in last time we launched from this site. We will paddle for about 6 - 8 miles depending on the participants. This is a casual and pleasant paddle event, surrounded by vegetation along the bayou and some interesting homes. Nearby is a barbecue restaurant if we want to lunch before heading back home. Directions: Take I-45 South and exit FM 517. Take FM 517 East (to the left under the freeway). You will go over one little bayou, Paul Hopkins Park is on the right just before another bayou might serve as a bathroom break. Because of Christmas lighting efforts, it may be closed. Cross at traffic light, turn right at next entrance to the park - restrooms are located at this parking lot. Or, continue onward to Hwy 3, turn right and travel about 0.3 mile to 48th St. and turn right into the boat ramp area.
Hazards: May include motor boat traffic, jet ski traffic, water snakes, submerged tree stumps, hanging limbs and branches, insects and wasps. Bring plenty of drinking water to maintain hydration throughout the paddle. Please be mindful of the weather and dress/pack accordingly. The weather is currently predicted to be about 50's at put-in, reaching about 70 in the afternoon.
